Charlie is fostered in the Burlington area & his new family will need to travel to meet him. Charlie is fully vetted - UTD, microchipped & neutered. He really will want to spend the most quality time with his new person. *Once he settles in, Charlie would love to hop in the car with you to visit friends & run errands. Charlie would enjoy a home that walks him, but the early days would require patience & consistency as he learns good walking habits. He is not the best on a leash, likely because it was never utilized sufficiently. *Charlie has really enjoyed his foster home’s fenced yard. His sweet soul prefers a more laid back way of life. *Charlie’s old soul would prefer a calmer environment to a lot of chaos. He would flourish in a home where some is home or in/out during the day. He presents with some separation anxiety, which could be transitional, but his new family should expect a bit of settling. *Charlie can handle a working family, but would not be at his best alone 8 hours a day. *Housetraining - he is pretty darn good at that stuff. He would likely be fine with older, tolerant children - as long as they food boundaries were explained & respected. *Kids: Charlie has made buds with two 12 year old boys. Charlie camped a few days with a home with male dogs & while he was tolerant, he clearly preferred the female dogs. Charlie has 3 female foster sisters & does not mind them at all. *Coincidently, Charlie likes female dogs more than male dogs. We are hopeful to find a home where Charlie will be able to be an actual man’s best friend. He simply prefers men & is drawn to them. While Charlie’s fosters parents are a husband/wife couple, Charlie has proven to be hopelessly devoted to a male.

Now, what Charlie really really wants: *A male best friend. If you find this unacceptable, you should pass on Charlie. This may settle as he grows to trust his new family, but respecting those boundaries will be necessary. *BUT Charlie’s new family needs to understand that insistence on removing items from his mouth will lead to a bite. *Charlie has not shown any other aggressive behavior. *Charlie has not shown typical food aggression such as guarding in front of other dogs. *It seems that once Charlie has an item (food or not) in his mouth, a sudden effort to retrieve it (with good intent or not) is unsettling for him. We are aware of two prior incidents where something was taken from Charlie’s mouth & an attempt to move his bowl while eating - and it just did not go well. *Charlie has some resource guarding tendencies toward items in his mouth. Before we cover every way he is perfect, let’s cover his needs first. Charlie has some dachshund that maybe had a party with a beagle or a basset (around 20 pounds)- who knows, but he got the cute parts of all! Surrendered to a rural shelter because his family moved, Charlie found his way to DBPR & is now ready to become an alum. Charlie is a mid-aged dude (6ish years old) with an old soul. feature=youtu.be This Happy Friday brings us Charlie.
